2° Where does the creature that is on the cover of your new album come from ?
I think it symbolizes the beginning of the pagan age. The mother earth, as I see it. As on the last album we where on the vales of death, this is a kinda rebirth, new life. The origins of the pagan. The nature, the forrest is the blood. So there comes the paganblood.
3° Why this cult for the pagan heritage, and this rejection of Christianity ?
It is natural for me. I know my heritage. Finland was thee LAST country in Europe to loose it´s own heritage, pagan history. I see christianity as destroyer of the worlds, as destroyer of individualism. But I see also all organized religions as thread for human brain. People should think , not follow blind folded.
As you look at the world today, morons are leaders. They follow the faith. And disasters happen all the time. I felt sooo good, when the pope died. But the laughter and joy was short, as there is always a new pope. This time even more konservative and maybe even dumber than the previous.
4° Could you talk to me about the intense and very strong “Northlander” ?
It is mainly by Azhemin, allthough I did some small melody lines and lyrics for it. A brilliant and intense song indeed. When we listened the demo versions through, it just called me to make lyrics based on the shores of North, basically this is a kind of a love song. A woman from conquered lands waits her loved one from the North. And when the Northlander comes, he brings love. But he also brings the coldness, darkness and his nature as pure as it is. Destroys the cross.
Welcomed is Northlander
The strength and power From Northlands
Welcomed are shine and glaze
The iron, force and ice
They saw along the sides and on the bottom
The livid blackened all pocked full of holes
The place where we have come to clamber down
The Souls of grinded, darkened paganhood
5° How do you deal with when you look for a peculiar track about the right theme ? Do you read historical documents ?
I do read some yes. I do have a couple of basic books I keep close to me when I do lyrics. My all time favorite is Eino Leino´s Helkavirsiä ( Whitsongs ), which is the book I have based one album all together. Then I have bible ( of course, know your enemy ), Dante´s Divine Comedy, some Wicca books and some occult books beside me. I also do read a lot of WW2 and especially what happened on the eastern front. I try to read from both views, or from all of the views, if you say. That basically makes the rock for my lyrics.
6° For the limited edition, there is a DVD along with the CD. What are mostly happy of proud of as regards its material ?
It is fun to see some old videos on DVD. And of course the Tavastia gig is cool.
7° In Finland, there are many metal bands – have you great friends among them, and does it happen to you to imagine that you could achieve a project with one of them ?
I have played metal for 20 years, so obviously I have friends among players, and fans. We do make projects almost every time we are drinking. Some of them come true, most of them not. But I do play in bands, which started from a drink. People asked me to join, and so I did. Gloomy Grim, Twilight Ophera, Darkride & Walhalla are those. Soulgrind I created in my head and asked people to join me, while drinking...haha.
